![]() With plenty of time before the magic moment, Mei-O and I stopped to play ping pong on what now was an eerily deserted Deck 16. People were either on the Piazza celebrating, in their cabins watching the sun show, or along the starboard side railing on Decks 17 and 18 waiting to see the sun set and rise and the same time. |
![]() On our way back to our room, I grabbed a bag of popcorn to munch on. It was pretty good. |
![]() A little before 11:00, back in our room and watching from our balcony, I was getting worried that the cloud cover would obscure the sun so we wouldn't be able to see it set and rise. |
![]() By 11:30, it was getting a little hard to tell. What was between those low clouds with the silver lining and the sea? More clouds or clear sky? We'd have to wait and see. |
![]() And then, a few minutes before midnight, the sun appeared in that thin sliver of open sky below the clouds! All eyes, including a bunch of people watching from the now brightly illuminated Deck 5 below us, were focused on this once in a lifetime (for most us, I assume) phenomena. It was just perfect. |
![]() And so, I had to take selfie. Mei-O was so tired she had already gone to bed, but I woke her for this. It was too cold for her out on the balcony (she already had her jammies on), so she took her pictures from inside the room through the glass door. I regret not having a selfie of the two of us with the midnight sun behind us. |
![]() And then, as the minutes ticked by, heavy clouds moved in and blocked the sun, until around 12:20, the now rising sun popped up above them. It never went below the horizon, allowing us to experience "a day with no night" in the Land of the Midnight Sun. This was the last picture I took tonight, a very satisfying night for me. We were now well on our way to our next port; we'd be arising
tomorrow morning in Tromsø. |
