So after getting cleaned up a bit and dropping our bags at the hotel, it was time to start exploring Sydney. |

![]() A Sydney Big Bus tour bus would be our mode of transportation to see Sydney. We bought a 48-hour ticket that would start the timer ticking the first time we got on the bus which was about 9:45 AM. Fortunately, there was a bus stop a few hundred feet from our hotel. We'd ride on the upper deck to get a good open view as we drove through the streets, something we reconsidered later. |
![]() We drove around the city seeing typical city sites. Here are a few pictures I took from atop the Big Bus along the way. We even got our first views of... |
![]() ...the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. We occasionally got a great view of the Sydney skyline, all from atop the Sydney Big Bus tour bus. A somewhat interesting fact: I was here in Sydney back in September, 1968 on R&R week long vacation from the war |
![]() Around 11:00, as the bus reached the stop where we wanted to alight (the Sydney Fish Market stop), we got off. There were several ibis lurking around, and Mei-O wanted to make sure to get a good picture of these birds who didn't seem to fear us. |
![]() We began to walk to the Sydney Fish Market where we had a 12:00 lunch date to meet some friends of Teresa who live near Sydney who she hadn't seen in over 40 years! We got a little lost, not knowing exactly where we were to meet, but eventually, we wound up in front of the market where... |
![]() ...we easily found Teresa's old friend awaiting us! |
![]() So in we all went to have a look at this bustling place, filled with seafood and fish sellers and plenty of restaurants offering all sorts of selections. A close look at any of these market pictures reveals that the market is a real favorite of Sydney's Asian population. |
![]() Teresa's friends insisted on treating us all to lunch, and after we got a table (not easy due to it being the busy lunch hour and there being six of us), all this was brought to our table! Here's the lobster (I had to have a close-up of the lobster!) and this, some shrimp and fish kabobs, and this. (And more food trickled in a little later.) It was a great reunion party! |
![]() When lunch was done, there were a couple of final pictures, and then Teresa's friends headed home, and we went on our way, hopping back on the Sydney Big Bus tour bus. All day the bus made a big loop around Sydney (actually there were two routes, the Red and the Blue, and we've been riding the Red), and now we could take it back to the hotel to get settled in our rooms that would hopefully be ready by the time we got there.
