February 14th to the 16th - Getting to Sydney
We arrived in Sydney early in the morning on the 16th, and the first order of business was to get to our hotel.

Walking through the airport to get to Immigration and go through Customs (both very easy, with few questions asked), we got our first view of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge, increasing the anticipation of actually seeing them! We were on the other side of the world in Australia!

We stepped out of the airport into a light rain with temperatures in the upper 60s. Teresa tried to get an Uber with no success, so we ended up taking a pretty expensive taxi, around AU$120 (about US$80), but we didn't care. Once we checked in at the hotel and dropped our bags off there (our rooms wouldn't be ready until around 3:00 in the afternoon), we could begin checking out the city. Besides, we had a noon lunch date.

So we hopped in a taxi and headed off to our hotel. I found it very hard to get used to the driving on the left. At every turn or curve, it looked like we were going to run into someone head-on. I didn't take any pictures out the car window.

Checking in at The Sydney Boulevard Hotel was smooth and easy. They graciously let us go up to the gym on the twenty-something-th floor to use their restrooms to get cleaned up a bit (like brushing our teeth!) after our long flight. That was a quite welcome amenity. So far, everything about the hotel appeared to make it a great choice by Teresa. Now we could head out to see some of Sydney.
