Checking the sunrise from our stateroom early this morning as we were docking in Kahului, Maui. Well, at least we had a big window to let the light in. There were no good shore excursions today, so we'd have to improvise.

It was a beautiful day out, but as usual, it was quite windy. After breakfast, Steve, Teresa, and Mei-O decided to head way up to Deck 14 to...

...try to play some pickleball! Unfortunately, the wind was so strong that they couldn't even get the net, which was on wheels so it could be moved on and off the court, to stay in place, so the game was off.

The pickleball game turned into a walk around the ship, first on Deck 13, then on on Deck 6 where you could walk a complete, uninterrupted lap around the whole ship. During our walk, we ran into a female deckhand, Devon from New Jersey, the only female deckhand on the ship. We saw her working on various maintenance projects several times during the cruise.

While we were waiting for lunch, I ran into a Hawaiian language lesson which, from afar, I sat in on. Here's one page of the handout the instructor gave us (that's him sitting right in the middle), and here's the other with some phrases to use with any native speakers you may encounter. Sadly, I didn't memorize any, but I did learn that the "ha" syllable in "aloha" is the same "Ha" syllable (the same meaning) that's in "Hawai'i". The Hawaiian language looks pretty interesting.

We had nothing planned for today, so for lunch, we went to the Aloha Cafe (the buffet). Today they were serving noodle soup or pasta made to order (amongst other things, of course.) And they always had a bunch of yummy desserts.

After lunch, I wasn't feeling very good, so while I stayed on the ship, Steve, Teresa, and Mei-O went ashore and walked into Kahului to check out a nearby shopping mall fronted by this movie theater. These are the only pictures Mei-O returned with.

After a little while just relaxing in our room, I felt a little better, so I went out to soak in the hot tub for a while. I obviously couldn't get any pictures of myself in the tub, so this picture will have to represent my time (just about 20 minutes) in there.

When I got out of the hot tub, I walked around (and above) the pool, stopping and listening to this singer and her band for a while. As I continued my walk, I got handed a nice snack. I eventually returned to our room and waited for Mei-O's return. We relaxed there a while before heading out to meet the others for dinner.

Our room steward was out in the hall when we left our room for dinner. He's from the Philippines, and his name is Daisy. We wanted to take a selfie with him, but he wanted to do it himself. He took good care of our room while we were there.
