![]() We got up early this morning and, after breakfast, took a walk around the ship. We often found ourselves walking down this hallway which, way up ahead, had some nice comfortable sofas and a "good view" out the window. We sat and talked for a while, getting a passerby to snap a picture of us. |
![]() By 9:30, we had met up with all the others and hopped on a shuttle bus for a very short ride into town to do some exploring. |
![]() The shuttle bus dropped us off at the Harbor Mall, a small open-air mall with not a lot to offer. But we talked to an employee there who told us where we could go for an interesting experience. So we left the mall, ... |
![]() ...and went exploring, looking for what the mall employee told us were the Marriott Hotel's gardens. |
![]() Our plans included swimming at Kalapaki Beach sometime during our shore visit, but we couldn't easily get there from the road we were on (and besides, right now we were looking for the gardens); we'd have to go on and get there some other way. We crossed this bridge, and onward we went. |
![]() We eventually found access to the beach, but first we wanted to see if we could find the supposedly beautiful Marriott Hotel's gardens, so we headed over towards the hotel. |
![]() We found a path that seemed to lead into the gardens. Click here to see some pictures of the gardens. |
![]() After leaving the gardens, we made our way over to Kalapaki Beach. Standing on the shore, I pondered how cool it would be to take a dip in the Pacific Ocean. I wore my bathing suit under my pants anticipating this great adventure; spurred on by Maria and Teresa, I was ready to take the plunge. |
![]() But the Pacific Ocean had different plans for me. It wanted to swallow me up! As the waves receded back into the sea, two unexpected things quickly happened: first, the sand beneath my feet, especially under my heels, got washed away with the receding water throwing me way off balance, almost causing me to fall, and second, the strong pull of the water, even as shallow as it was, tried to pull me back with it. I could only think, "Get me outta here!" (Teresa almost lost it too.) So much for my dream.... |
![]() So we took a couple of final shots (0:18) on Kalapaki Beach (with our ship in the background), then left the beach to get cleaned up and head back to the ship. Next (Day 8, Page 2) |
