My Aunt, Yeva Milyutina, in Schumi, The Town (Шуми, городок)

Schumi, The Town, is a 1939 film from the Soviet Union (in Russian, with no subtitles) in which my Aunt Yeva Milyutina appears. She comes in late in this one hour and 11 minute movie, around 39:24, and has a rather small part, which seems odd, because her name appears before the star, Anna Komolova's in the opening credits. But because this movie, unlike The Girl With The Hat Box, is a 'talkie', we can actually hear her voice. She also shows up at 43:46 (just for a second or two), 49:44, 54:41, and 59:40 for a few more short scenes. So once again, just like in The Girl With The Hat Box,she plays a very minor character with very little screen time.

  • Summary: Cheerful comedy about the life of a peripheral town late '30s. Despite its distance from the center, the town lives a busy life. To build new houses, old streets are closed. In order not to break the old buildings, the young inventor offers to move them, as he has done on Gorky Street in Moscow. This proposal raises the enthusiasm of the majority of local residents and put into practice with songs, dances, and love misunderstandings.
